Non-territorial federalism - MAHENDRA LAWOTI A major concern shown against the federal structure approved by the Constituent Assembly’s sub-committee and other similar models is that many groups are territorially dispersed and hence territorial federalism may not address the aspirations for autonomy of many dispersed groups. Non-territorial federalism can provide autonomy to territorially dispersed groups.
Why countries disintegrate - MAHENDRA LAWOTI Some political leaders, commentators and media personalities have
alleged that federalism may facilitate disintegration of Nepal. This
fear seems to have caught the imagination of some sections of the
public. This is a valid popular concern because some “federal”
countries like the USSR, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and Pakistan
disintegrated. However, the fear is based on incomplete information and
analysis.

Janajatis protest arrest of their leaders - Janajati Reporter Kathmandu, July 27: Oranising a protest meet and a protest rally, activists of Indigenous Nationalities today protested the arrest of its leaders by the police on Monday during the peaceful protest at New Road.
Kathmandu, July 26:Police have arrested a number of Janajati leaders
from New Road
in the afternoon while they were on peaceful programme announcing the
month-long protest programmes announced by Nepal Federation of Indigenous
Nationalities (NEFIN). Those arrested were NEFIN Vice-chairman Indira Jimi Yakkha, General Secretary Aang Kaji Sherpa and
Secretary Yeso Kanti Bhattachan besides two others.
WNO demands end of discrimination at KMC - Janajati Reporter Kathmandu, July 24: World Newah Organization (WNO), on behalf of the Newah people & Organizations around the world has expressed serious concern over use of force during the peaceful demonstration for fair and inclusive employment of local job seekers in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). "WNO strongly condemn such unwarranted intervention and use of brutal Police force by the Caretaker government and the “Nominated Chief” of KMC, and demand immediate release of anyone detained in this regard. The rules set are neither politically democratic nor socially just, and the use of police force should immediately be withdrawn," stated a press release issued by WNO here, today.
